Raising A New Generation of Developers in West Michigan

The Urban League of West Michigan’s Equitable Development Initiative is a 10-week training program designed to assist underrepresented and emerging developers with capacity and wealth building by connecting them with the resources they need for success

Grand Rapids is taking important steps to create more equitable and affordable neighborhoods through zoning reform. But building vibrant, accessible communities isn’t just about policy—it’s about people like you who know best what your neighborhood needs.

We need passionate, indigenous residents in historically disinvested neighborhoods who are ready to become developers, using their talent and vision to help shape the future of our city. By joining us, you’ll gain access to the resources, support, and investment needed to turn your ideas into reality and make a lasting impact on your community.

There are currently two cohorts scheduled: Spring 2025 and Fall 2025, with a goal of supporting 20 new developers participating in the growth of our community and learning to be a leader in the development industry. If successful, this will become an annual offering in the community and will expand to a broader audience.
